Junior Dos Santos isn’t “made at the Laboratory” (hmmmm, who could he be talking about?)

junior_dos_santosJunior Dos Santos has proven to be a humble and fairly soft-spoken champion. It’s hard not to like him quite frankly. You really don’t see him come out and bash other fighters and talk crazy crap about his opponents. For the most part, I’d say Junior is a very respectful champion. With that in mind, it tends to have more impact on me when he does come out and say something about another fighter. And he made reference to another fighter, although he didn’t name names.

During the UFC 155 media call, Dos Santos spoke highly of his next opponent, former champion Cain Velasquez. He called Velasquez a “real professional fighter.” He went on to say that fighters like him and Cain are “made at the gym” while others perhaps not. His exact words were, “other guys are made at the laboratory.”

You don’t have to stray too far to realize he’s obviously talking about Alistair Overeem. Overeem wants to be the next guy to face the champion, whoever it may be. He is currently serving a suspension for failing a drug test.

Dos Santos is being careful not to mention Overeem by name, but let’s face it; he’s not exactly playing coy either. I like that about Junior. Today, you see a lot of heavy trash talkers; you also see a lot of politically correct guys afraid to speak out against anything. It’s very refreshing to see a champion stay respectful but still let us know what he stands for.
