lawler“Ruthless” Robbie Lawler last fought in the UFC way back in 2004—a loss to Evan Tanner. Lawler’s journey has found its way back to the octagon after all that time. He will return to the UFC at UFC 157 in February against Josh Koscheck, and reports are coming in that the fight will be at 170 pounds.

Lawler hasn’t fought at welterweight since that fight with Tanner, so this could be interesting. Lawler is one of the hardest hitters in the sport, with 16 of his 19 wins ending in knockouts. He is coming off a decision loss to Lorenz Larkin in July.

Koscheck is looking to rebound from a split decision loss his last time out to Johny Hendricks. Before that he defeated Mike Pierce in a close split decision and Matt Hughes by KO. The long time villain has earned Fight of the Night on two occasions, KO of the Night twice and Submission of the Night once.

Lawler’s return to the UFC is somewhat surprising in that he’s only 3-5 in his eight fights with Strikeforce. There’s no question that his penchant for excitement and finishing was the main factor in gaining favor with the UFC for this opportunity. You can always count on Lawler to come out swinging.

By the way, while imagining how a Koscheck vs. Lawler might go, is anyone else picturing the Koscheck vs. Paul Daley fight?
