Dana White goes off on Cain’s “Brown Pride” Critics

cainbrownprideI’m not sure if Cain Velasquez needs Dana White to stick up for him, but he got it. While most everyone is looking forward to Cain Velasquez challenging Junior Dos Santos for the unofficial “Baddest Man on the Planet” crown, some people still want to talk about things that aren’t relevant to the fight; like tattoos and whatnot.

Every time Velasquez fights, his “Brown Pride” tattoo comes into question. I guess that’s one of the downfalls of working in a profession where going shirtless isn’t just commonplace, it’s mandatory. Speaking of which, do we really need to keep using the shirts vs. skins method in playground basketball? C’mon guys, you can remember your own teammates for one game right?

Wait, I got off topic didn’t I? Anyway, Cain’s a nice, soft-spoken guy, so Dana jumped in on this subject at the pre fight press conference. “He’s proud to be Mexican, he’s proud of his heritage,” White said about Velasquez. “If you’re Italian…when I lived in Boston you had guys with Italian this, Irish that, you know. Everybody had a tattoo on themselves of their ethnic background. There’s nothing wrong with Cain Velasquez having a ‘Brown Pride’ (tattoo).”

Reasonable enough defense, as if he even needed one. And then White took it a step farther in a humorous way. “To even make that statement, you’re probably some redneck hillbilly out in the middle of the country somewhere and we know where you’re at and what you’re thinking.” I knew D.W. wouldn’t be able to resist taking a jab at those who claim to be offended by the tattoo. He never lets us down in that regard.
