Heavyweight Slugfest on tap for UFC 159 — Big Country vs. Kongo

roy-nelson-belly-rubAnyone up for a hard-hitting brawl between two heavyweight sluggers? Well, too bad…you’re getting it anyway. Roy Nelson is set to take on Cheick Kongo at UFC 159 in April and I’m predicting a lot of bombs being thrown. Really this is a fight between two guys who have a reputation for not quite good enough to beat an upper echelon heavyweight.

But they typically have good luck against the middle of the pack. Nelson is coming off back-to-back wins against Dave Herman and Matt Mitrione—both 1st round knockouts. Kongo just defeated Shawn Jordan by decision, and before that was hammered by Mark Hunt.

If I had to make an early prediction, Nelson is clearly the favorite in my opinion. Both fighters have their fair share of KO’s but I believe that puts Kongo at a distinct disadvantage. Nelson has never been knocked out in his UFC career, while Kongo has. In fact, he was practically knocked out TWICE in the same fight against Pat Barry—oh yeah, he won that fight. Still, gimme Nelson by KO.

UFC 159 will be headlined by the light heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen as a wrap up to their current Ultimate Fighter coaching obligations.
