MMA: UFC on FOX-Moraga vs GomezJohn Moraga just elevated his status in the UFC. Moraga will next face UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson in the main event of the TUF 17 Finale in Las Vegas. That’s a pretty nice jump for a guy with just two fights in the promotion. His wins over Ulysses Gomez and Chris Cariaso put him in line for the title shot with Mighty Mouse.

The interesting thing about Moraga is that his only two fights with the UFC were about as low-key as you can get. The first was the opening fight of the evening (actually, more like ‘afternoon’) on Fox’s Shogun vs. Vera event. Needless to say, he was slated on the preliminary FX portion of the card. In his second fight, he was relegated to the dreaded Facebook duties—also as the opener—at UFC 155.

But those days are over for now as he stands to be the headliner for his next fight. I can imagine this would be quite a change for Moraga, who’s used to stepping in the octagon about the time the main eventers are waking up. If you’ve ever been to a live event, you know the stadium is lucky to be one-third full at that time. Not only that, but he’ll also get his face on a fight poster. I’m sure that will be hanging up in his own bedroom soon.
