“The Wanderlei” … a delicious Axe Murderer inspired Sandwich from Epic Deli

wand2We first heard about Epic Deli when we learned that they named a gigantic sandwich after Roy “Big Country” Nelson not too long ago. Since then the Chicago area sandwich shop has introduced even more awesomely stacked sandwiches that honor our favorite fighters—Cain Velasquez, Ronda Rousey, Clay Guida and Bigfoot Silva are just a few of the fighters who have been made into a delicious sub.

Next on the list is Wanderlei Silva. Although eating a dish named after an Axe Murderer isn’t normally appropriate, in this case, I’ll make an exception. Inspired by his phenomenal performance Saturday night, “The Wanderlei” sandwich is sure to deliver an equal number of satisfied stomachs as the real Wanderlei delivers rapid fire punches to the face. Only way less blood and fewer missing teeth.

Here’s what you get on your sub roll of goodness: Shredded steak with pinto beans start things off in the right direction. Then they add a nice amount of avocado (let me just say, avocado should be added on most everything) just to give the impression this is going to be a walk in the park. But then, just like an encounter with the real Wanderlei, things get dicey. Habanero nacho cheese, jalapeno, pico de gallo and one of my favorites, chipotle sour cream give it some kick—and by “kick” I mean a kick to the head. The whole thing is topped with Cheetos Cheezy Salsa Mix Ups for a nice crunch.

I’m tempted to make the 7 hour drive (4 hours if I’m really hungry) just to sample this beast. Maybe the guys at Epic will box one up and stick it in the mail for me.
