UFC on Fox 7 — What’s your favorite upcoming fight?

Posted: April 16, 2013 in Commentary/Opinion, UFC Events

The UFC on Fox series has become the go-to show for casual and hard core fans to get some (almost) guaranteed great fights. Sure, they’ve taken a big fat dump before (UFC on Fox 2 anyone?). But for the most part, they continue to deliver a mixture of important and action packed fights sure to entice everyone to tune in. The 7th installment this weekend is no exception.

Unofficially dubbed ‘UFC vs. Strikeforce,’ this event features some pretty intriguing matchups. With a main event of Ben Henderson–who is making a serious run at the P4P “title”–vs. Strikeforce champ Gilbert Melendez, we should be in store for some high-paced action. But this is no one-fight card.

My own favorite fight is the co-main event between heavyweights Frank Mir and Daniel Cormier. Not only is it a really cool matchup, but it also has a few significant storylines. Of course there’s the UFC/Strikeforce angle. But then there’s the fact that Mir is a multiple time UFC champion while Cormier is so new to the sport. Can Mir’s experience be overcome by the all-out skill of Cormier? Perhaps the most interesting storyline is Cormier’s rising popularity as a guy who always seems to say the right things, against Mir, who quite frankly (FRANKly…get it?) is a bit of a douche to put it mildly.

The main card will also feature exciting fighters like Nate Diaz vs. Josh Thomson and the young gun Jordan Mein vs the reemerging veteran Matt Brown. I already told you my favorite fight of the night. Which fight are you most looking forward to?
