Josh Thomson says, “Nate Diaz didn’t make weight” for ‘UFC on Fox 7’

joshthomsonJosh Thomson has to be wondering if Nate Diaz will ever go away. Despite Thomson beating Diaz on UFC on Fox 7, Diaz keeps talking trash. He’s even said he wants a rematch with The Punk. As unlikely as that rematch is, Thomson finally stepped out to try to squash Diaz’s trash talk—or at least meet it head-on.

Thomson is claiming that Diaz failed to make weight before their fight and that he could have protested it to make bigger problems for Nate, but decided to keep his mouth shut. But now Diaz’s talk has forced Thomson to respond to rematch requests. “He couldn’t even make weight when we fought the first time,” Thomson said. “Nate knows this.”

That statement makes everyone do a double take, because it was never reported that he missed weight. You’ll remember during the weigh ins, Nate weighed in at 157. He then took off his trunks and after a painfully long—and fishy looking—conversation between Dana White and the commissioner, they inexplicably said, “156.” It didn’t make sense then, but Thomson’s accusation does now.

“I am going to say this directly to him,” he continued. “Nate, you didn’t make the weight, so how are you going to make the weight when we fight again? That’s the thing that’s discerning, we all let it slide because it was a huge fight, but you didn’t make the weight and you still lost.”

It will be interesting to see if anything more comes from this. It definitely was strange to see such a long talk at weigh ins while Diaz was on the scale. It’s also odd that a pair of trunks would weigh exactly 1 pound. Thomson’s version of the story not only makes sense, but also raises a red flag on the legitimacy of the weigh in results.
