Dana White’s Favorite Hobby? Ripping Mazzagatti a new one

mazzDana White once blamed Hurricane Katrina on Steve Mazzagatti. He also blamed the much maligned referee for Hostess going out of business and ending Twinkies’ reign on the snacking universe. If there’s a problem in the world today, you can bet White will look no further than Steve Mazzagati.

So it’s no surprise that when former UFC welterweight Jon Fitch was involved in a fight over the weekend, he would have plenty to say about the ref. The short version is that Fitch was completely choked out in his WSOF debut against Josh Burkman. White had a major problem when Mazzagatti didn’t jump in to stop the fight.

White asked media, “Does anyone disagree with me that Mazzagatti’s a fucking toolbox?” He went on to rip Mazz (again) for not stepping in, even going so far as to say, “That guy is dangerous.”

NSAC commissioner, Keith Kizer defended Mazzagatti, saying that there was nothing else that could have been done.

It appeared that Burkman held the choke until the moment Fitch went out, and then he released it. Fitch didn’t tap, nor was there any sign that he had lost consciousness before Burkman himself released the hold. This seems like another one of White’s overreactions to a Steve Mazzagatti story. Of course there have been other issues with Mazz, but I really don’t think this is one of them.

Hell, who knows? Maybe this is just Dana’s way of bringing up the fact that his other “favorite,” Jon Fitch, was choked out in under a minute.
