Cro Cop vs. Emelianenko (not Fedor) re-match Reported for Fall

crocopaleksThe names Cro Cop and Emelianenko can headline an event even today. And that’s exactly what’s about to happen this fall if everything falls into place. Legend MMA is reportedly booking the rematch between Mirko Cro Cop and Aleksander Emelianenko in November.

These two have tangled before, almost a decade ago in Pride. That 2004 matchup was ended early by Cro Cop who head-kicked Emelianenko in only 2 minutes. That was during a stretch where Cro Cop ended six straight fights inside the first round, the longest lasting less than four minutes. Ironically the man who ended that streak was Alexsander’s brother, Fedor.

Emelianenko is 22-6 in his career and is coming off a “win” over freakshow and disgrace to the sport, Bob Sapp at Legend’s last event. Cro Cop should prove to be a stiffer test for Aleks, who lost to Jeff Monson in his previous outing.

Cro Cop is also coming off a win against Shinichi Suzukawa, but had some problems prior to that 1st round submission. His final three fights in the UFC all ended badly for Cro Cop. He was knocked out in succession by Frank Mir, Brendan Schaub and Roy Nelson before leaving for semi-retirement.

These two fighters should bring some nostalgia—and probably some viewers—to the event. Both athletes are far beyond their primes, but watching two well-recognized names mix it up will always have appeal. Keep your eyes open for more on this event.

  1. I kind of want to see Fedor fight, but at the same time I think it’s best he just retire. Would have wondered how he would have done if he trained with different teams, and how his game might have evolved. But overall still an amazing career, and best heavyweight ever.

His brother vs Cro Cop would still be interesting, but not a fight that people are clamoring to see.
