chandlerOther than politics and religion, it would seem one of the touchiest subjects to bring up these days is that of MMA fighter pay. Bellator CEO Bjorn Rebney recently told MMA Junkie  that Lightweight Michael Chandler is now one the highest paid lightweights in ALL of MMA.

Rebney commented, “I can tell you that every single time Michael and I go out to dinner for the rest of our lives, he picks up the check.” Apparently Chandler can now afford to large size both his and Rebney’s combos when he goes through the drive through now.  The undefeated champ is set to defend the title he took from Eddie Alvarez on July 31st at Bellator 97.

Meanwhile, Alvarez is still in MMA purgatory as the deal he cut with the UFC back in late 2012 that included a $250,000 signing bonus is still in the legal system after Bellator claimed they could match it. Unless a settlement is reached, they will not see each other in court until September 2014. Alvarez will have to continue to eat off the dollar menu while he waits around for the chance to make a living.
