Dana White: “I’ll make Sonnen vs. Wanderlei co-main event at UFC167”

SOnnenVIG1The gauntlet has been dropped…multiple times. Chael “Superstar Graham” Sonnen has been chasing Wanderlei Silva forever. For one reason or another, the two have never been able to hook it up in the cage though. But now, even Dana White is on that bandwagon.

Sonnen sent White a prerecorded plea on Fox Sports 1, asking the boss to give him the co-main event slot at UFC 167. The headliner of that event is Georges St-Pierre vs. Johny Hendricks. GSP—according to Sonnen—is the only fighter who “comes close to rivaling” Sonnen’s drawing power and earning power. If that’s true, UFC 167 could be huge.

White responded favorably. “We can do that fight,’ he said. “The question, I think, is Wanderlei Silva is out until the beginning of the year. I’m not sure if he’s healthy. But if he’s healthy, I will definitely make that fight, and I will definitely make it the co-main event.”

So, pending The Axe Murderer’s health, the ball is in his court. Sonnen—the master of manipulation—has really put Silva behind the eight-ball. He either cuts his rehab short and accepts the fight; or he refuses it and risks looking like he’s avoiding the fight. Either scenario isn’t great for Silva.
