huntstruveA “big” fight has been announced for the UFC’s next trip to Australia December 21. Heavyweights Mark Hunt and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva will headline the “Fight Night” event.

As always in the heavyweight division, this is an important matchup in terms of rankings in the 2nd tier of the weight class.

Hunt is coming off a knockout loss to Junior Dos Santos in May. Dos Santos clobbered Hunt with a spinning heel kick to end the fight in the 3rd round. Prior to that loss, Hunt ran off an unexpected 4 wins in a row, which rejuvenated his career, which was highlighted by consecutive victories over legends Mirko Cro Cop and Wanderlei Silva back in 2004 and 2005.

For Bigfoot, he’s also coming off a tough loss. UFC champion Cain Velasquez halted Bigfoot’s bid for the title in under 1:30 of the 1st round. That was Silva’s second loss to Velasquez within a year. Before that loss, he left his mark on the division by knocking out both Travis Browne and Alistair Overeem in succession.

This is sure to be a slugfest. Six of Hunt’s nine career wins have come by way of KO. Likewise, Silva has 13 KOs in 18 career wins. As the main event in Australia, this fight is scheduled for 5 rounds, but let’s face it…this bitch ain’t going the distance.
