2 straight losses? No problem…Nate Diaz still asks for Pettis Fight

NateR5Here’s a bit of unfinished business from over the weekend hat I thought was amusing. Nate Diaz certainly uses the same matchmaking qualifications as his brother Nick, doesn’t he? Sunday, the UFC announced a lightweight fight between Nate and Gray Maynard at the TUF 18 Finale in November. Instead of responding directly to that news, Diaz had an interesting “announcement” of his own.

On Twitter, he wrote, “Nah fuck that I’m fightin Pettis.” I wonder if Dana White saw that and said, “Dammit, I guess he’s fighting Pettis now.”

In case you needed a reminder, this is a theme we’ve seen from both Diaz brothers now—to ask for title shots despite coming off losses. Nate lost to then-champ Benson Henderson last December and followed that up with a KO loss to Josh Thomson in April. Still, he seems to think Pettis is the next logical fight for him.

Likewise, Nick has a similar viewpoint. Despite losing to Carlos Condit, he still wanted a shot at welterweight champ Georges St-Pierre. Although he actually got it, many felt it was undeserved. Now with two straight losses under his belt, he still wants another crack at GSP.

I doubt either Diaz gets his wish this time. But it’s always entertaining to get a glimpse into the mindset of both of these guys. I guess fans will have to settle for a 3rd fight with Maynard.
