askrenRumors of Ben Askren’s demise have been greatly exaggerated. Despite what was flying around the internet yesterday, Askren says he won’t be retiring, because there’s still one big fight he wants—Georges St-Pierre.

The speculation started when Askren’s teammate, newly crowned UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, told the media that “Funky” was currently “lost” between the UFC and Bellator and considering retirement.

Shortly after Pettis’ comments, Askren cleared things up with a Tweet expressing his interest in GSP.

Not retiring yet, still 1 person I want to beat up. @GeorgesStPierre @ufc @danawhite.

We know that Askren is in a similar situation as Eddie Alvarez was last year. He has fought his last fight under Bellator’s contract and is now in the negotiation phase of the process. If and when the UFC offers him a contract, Bellator will get a chance to match that figure.

Quite honestly, Askren’s wrestling is so strong that I have little doubt that he could take that one skill and do VERY well in the UFC. St-Pierre, however will be a tough nut to crack. In order to even make that fight happen, he’d first have to run off at least 3 wins in the UFC. But either way, Askren says he’s not retiring yet.
