jonesbleedingUFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones has been running through his division at a rapid pace. He captured the belt just over 2 years ago and has already defended it six times, including his fight against Alexander Gustafsson. That was the most recent—and toughest—of his career. With Glover Teixeira next, and a Gustafsson rematch after that, Jones has an idea.

“I’ve been really thinking about me and Cain Velasquez going at it,” Jones said. “I think it’ll be huge for the sport.”

I think everyone would agree with “Bones’” assessment that the superfight would be “huge.”

“I think it would be a really entertaining fight. He’s definitely the toughest guy in the division and he’s not that big, so I think it would be a really entertaining fight. Don’t be surprised if that happens sooner rather than later.”

With longtime P4P kingpin Anderson Silva finally losing, and GSP considering stepping away for a while, a Jones/Cain fight could be the biggest draw remaining. And Jones is right; Cain isn’t THAT big, so a fight wouldn’t be a serious mismatch based on size alone. I think this idea could get lots of run from fans.
