Askren begging UFC for a shot — will it work?

Posted: November 26, 2013 in Commentary/Opinion, Latest news

bunnyWe will soon find out how Ben Askren’s meeting with the UFC’s top brass went yesterday. Dana White has been adamant about the fact that the UFC isn’t interested in the former Bellator Welterweight champion who was cut by the promotion during his reign. However, Dana has flip flopped on fighters before so it wouldn’t be a surprise if it happened again.

Last week White told MMA Fighting, “We’re gonna meet with him on Monday. We’re just not going to sign him. He can go to World Series of Fighting where there’s actually some competition for him. There’s no competition for him at that other place.” –the other place being the promotion that must not be named,  Bellator.

Despite the public rejection, Ben is still holding out hope. He’s put a spot in the UFC on his Christmas list and he’s not going to leave Santa alone until he gets it. Askren suggested a fight with Rory MacDonald, vowing to retire and fight for free if he lost. Can you smell the desperation in the air? Dana’s response to this was something along the lines of, still not interested.  This is playing out like a high school scene with the nerdy, slightly psycho chick pursuing the star football player, getting rejected at every turn. If DW has a bunny, he might want to relocate it before it becomes a bowl of hasenpfeffer.
