Suddenly, there’s no competition for “Worst Idea of 2013” — Shooto books Man vs. Woman Fight

Posted: December 17, 2013 in Commentary/Opinion

BAD-IDEAIn a move that slides in at the very last minute to be considered for “worst idea of 2013,” Shooto will be promoting a man vs. woman MMA fight. Emerson Falcao and Juliana Velasquez will make history (I guess) at Shooto 45 next Friday in Rio.

Velasquez fights out of Team Nogueira and could probably kick my ass, it is her pro debut. Falcao is 0-1. Promoter Andre Pederneiras—who also runs Nova Uniao—dreamed this up. Can someone help me with this? Can anything good come from this matchup?

If Falcao wins, doe she brag about it? Does he ask for a title shot? And what if Velasquez wins? I’m sure it will trigger a public rally for the underdog who beat up a man, but what next? God forbid that a positive outcome for Velasquez would lead to even more male vs. female matchups. I’m beyond words on this one.

Let’s hope there’s a last minute injury that prevents this from happening. I know I don’t want to see it.
