robertsonsubOur choice for Submission of the Year wasn’t selected because of its impact on the sport or its historical significance. Quite frankly, we picked Kenney Robertson submission over Brock Jardine because we thought it was nasty as hell.

Look, this fight was on Facebook on UFC 157, which means I didn’t even watch it—there! I said it! I didn’t even watch it!!! But I can’t even touch my damn toes, and I’m sitting down in a chair. I try to wear slip-on shoes so I don’t pull a hammy. This hold—apparently called a Suloev Stretch—would have killed me.

Robertson stretched the leg of Jardine in such a way that it likely would have submitted an Olympic gymnast. So for making me cringe, we congratulate Robertson—and we feel Brock Jardine’s pain. It’s interesting because normally when we talk about guys named Brock losing; and guys named Jardine losing, it usually involves some type of knockout.

Other submissions considered—Anthony Pettis over Ben Henderson; Josh Burkman over Jon Fitch; Ronda Rousey over Liz Carmouche; Rousey over Miesha Tate.
