Ouch! NFL “doesn’t want UFC associated with us” at Super Bowl media event

UFC-BeltDana White keeps saying the UFC will be bigger than the NFL someday. That day is NOT today. It seems the NFL slapped the UFC on the wrist at the Super Bowl media day events in Newark. Among the media walking around the Prudential Center floor was a UFC camera crew—with a championship belt.

An NFL official saw the female reporter approach some of the Denver Broncos players asking them to pose with the belt. He didn’t like it one bit. He asked what it was. The woman told him it was a UFC belt and asked if he wanted to hold it. He obviously didn’t.

“We don’t want this around here,” he said. “This is wrestling stuff, right? Yeah, we don’t want that associated with us and this event. This is the NFL.”

Ouch!

First off, it’s never good publicity to be confused for the WWE. And furthermore, UFC is also aired on Fox alongside the NFL. It seems this official had no clue what the UFC even is. Luckily Jay Glazer happened to be nearby to assure the official that yes, the UFC is legit.

So when White says things like, we’re killing the NBA, I have a feeling he can’t be happy about being viewed as an annoyance to their supposed equals.
