rumbleAnthony “Rumble” Johnson must have impressed the UFC over the last six fights outside the organization, because he’s back. Johnson will fight at light heavyweight–not the ridiculous welterweight he was at before–and he’ll be making his return against a fairly big name in the division. According a tweet/Facebook post just moments ago, Johnson will face Phil Davis.

Ariel Helwani added that the fight is set for UFC 172.

This is about the right place for Johnson to start his new career at LHW. Phil Davis is a well respected fighter considered by most to be a legitimate contender. A win over Davis–who’s won three straight, including a decision over former champ Lyoto Machida–would certainly propel Johnson into the title picture right away. Although it’s way too early to speculate too much, it’s possible Johnson could beat Davis and step into a title elimination fight his next time out.
