bubbaUFC fighter and TUF alum Robert “Bubba” McDaniel accidentally tweeted out his salary for 2013, his first in the UFC. According to the tweet—which was meant to be a private message to his accountant—McDaniel made $33,200 last year.

He fought twice—one win and one loss. With a contract of $8000/$8000, that adds up to $24,000 for the two fights. That leaves roughly $9,200 unaccounted for based on his fight salary. That amount could have been due to a “locker room” bonus we always hear about. Or it could be that he made a small chunk of cash for appearing on the Ultimate Fighter cast earlier in the year.

Regardless of where it came from, the W2 doesn’t lie, and I’m assuming this is his gross earnings. To draw a comparison, if McDaniel had a job that paid him an hourly wage, he would be earning a roughly $16/hour—at 40 hours per week and 52 weeks per year.

For the record, McDaniel tried to delete the tweet immediately after discovering his mistake. Since it hit the news, he went out of his way to clarify that he wasn’t complaining at all. “I’ve dreamed about being an athlete my whole life. I’m not complaining at all,” he told Bloody Elbow. he also explained that he supplements his UFC income with 2 part time jobs.

How does that salary sit with you? Is it a fair amount considering McDaniel just entered the UFC and is essentially a prelim fighter at this point in his career?
