tiger-muay-thai-logo-2010-square-with-thaiwritingFor the second year, Tiger Muay Thai & MMA Training Camp in Phuket, Thailand will be taking applications from eager young fighters to earn a training scholarship at the acclaimed gym. In all, there will be five MMA scholarships as well as two Muay Thai scholarships handed out to worthy students.

The opportunity to live and train in Thailand is truly a life changing event. Applications are now being accepted. Just go to Tiger Muay Thai’s application and information page to fill out the questionnaire. Applicants can then simply email their completely form to tryouts@tigermuaythai.com.

Tryouts will be held on April 10th, 11th, and 12th. Invited athletes should be prepared to arrive in Phuket on or before April 9th, as well as remain in Phuket until April 19th.

TMT’s lead MMA instructor, UFC contender Brian Ebersole, heaped plenty of praise on the team’s inaugural class. “Our 2013 scholarship athletes were able to train all year long, with virtually no missed days due to accident/injury,” he boasted. “Being able to train continuously requires a certain temperament—one that balances intensity, safety, and inquisitiveness. The 2013 athletes had a great mindset, individually and collectively. With a proper outlook on training, their improvement was sure to come – and it did.”

TMT’s 2013 scholarship team was very successful, as Ebersole hinted at. With an MMA record 12-2-1 (1 NC), the level of training proved to be second to none, as one would expect from such a talented group of trainers. That impressive record doesn’t even include the numerous Muay Thai fights that the students were able to participate in as well.

Students will not only be able to train and learn alongside UFC veterans like Ebersole and Roger Huerta, but also BJJ and grappling expert, Fernando Maccachero. Maccachero is currently the highest ranked BJJ black belt in all of Thailand. That’s not to mention the incredible Muay Thai coaching staff at TMT, that’s so highly regarded that Georges St-Pierre prefers to fly at least two TMT Master Instructors all the way to Canada before his fights.

One of the most satisfying aspects of Tiger Muay Thai’s incredible scholarship program is that it rewards athletes who want to work at getting to the elite levels of mixed martial arts and Muay Thai, regardless of where they come from or who they know. Ebersole seems to understand that not every great young prospect is a household name already. “Finding a diamond in the rough is quite thrilling!” he exclaimed.

There’s no word yet on whether body grooming techniques will be focused on during the program; but the quality of fight training will be spectacular for the seven recipients of the scholarships. For more information please go to Tiger Muay Thai’s website.

Crikey, wish we had known of this when we were there recently 14th Jan-4th Feb, My son Harley would have jumped at this opportunity. We have both trained at TMT twice now and Harley often says he would love to live and train there. This would be an incredible opportunity for him. His dedication to training is second to none.
