jds beltWe just got a pretty cool heavyweight fight added to UFC 173. As rumored, former champion Junior Dos Santos will square off against fast rising Stipe Miocic. The fight will serve as the co-main event to the Chris Weidman vs. Lyoto Machida middleweight title bout.

This fight will ultimately go a long way in shaping the heavyweight rankings for the near future. A win by Dos Santos means he’s probably exactly what we thought—the 2nd best heavyweight in the world. A win for Miocic however skyrockets him to the top of the division in a hurry.

With consecutive wins over veterans Roy Nelson and Gabriel Gonzaga, Miocic is primed to make a big push for title contention.

For Dos Santos, he remains unbeaten—and dominant—in his UFC career with the exception of his two l osses to Cain Velasquez, who looks more and more invincible every day.

As is becoming the norm for PPV events, the headliner and co-main event appear to be the only “big” fights on the entire card. TJ Dillishaw will face Takeya Mizugaki on the main card; and will be joined by Tony Ferguson against a guy I don’t know and Jamie Varner vs. James Krause.
