Say Whaaaaat??? Diego Sanchez thinks he can beat Anthony Pettis 9 out of 10 times

saywhatWe might actually have to start a weekly column focusing on all the stupid things that are said in the MMA world. There would be no shortage that’s for sure. One such remark occurred over the weekend when Diego Sanchez made a claim that I thought must be a joke. But it wasn’t.

Sanchez said–get this–that he could defeat UFC champion Anthony Pettis nine out of ten times! Here’s the full quote in all it’s glory…

“As far as wrestling and ground skills with Pettis, I think I’m on another level. He has some nice ground skills, too, but I feel like I’m on another level, and (with) size and strength, I feel that’s a fight I win nine out of 10 times.”

Umm, what? Sanchez has one win at lightweight since 2009–against Takanori Gomi, and he missed weight. Overall he’s 3-5 in that span and to be honest, I had him losing the Martin Kampmann fight. He’s not even ranked in the top 15 and more important than his distorted opinion that he could beat Pettis nearly every time (he can’t), the only way he’d ever be int he same cage as “Showtime” would be if they held some kind of ceremony where Sanchez and other lower level lightweights had to carry the champ into the cage like he was King of Siam or something.

Diego, you’re confidence and delusions are at an all-time high; but your skill level certainly is not. “The Dream can dream on.
