Dana White calls us “idiots” for thinking the TUF “brawl” was staged…Guilty as charged

wand51Remember the incident from TUF Brazil when coaches Chael Sonnen and Wanderlei Silva pretended to fight on camera? You know, the one where Silva fired off an open handed “punch” at about 10% full speed so Sonnen could easily duck it and gentle double-leg him to the ground? Yeah, that one. Well, Dana White says it wasn’t a manufactured skit for the cameras. And he’s calling me an idiot.

Despite my certainty that this was a staged fight, White seems to be saying something different. “There’s a bunch of idiots in the media saying, ‘That thing looks contrived,’” White said. “It was far from contrived. That thing was a disgusting display of what shouldn’t happen, and if I was there it would have never happened.”

In fact, White’s “story” even has a little twist to help you believe it (I don’t). He says the reason the Sonnen/Silva fight was postponed was because of a back injury Wanderlei sustained…during that “brawl.” Yeah right.

“What happened was Wanderlei got hurt in that fight,” White said with a straight face. “He got double legged on the concrete and he hurt his back. He hurt his hand punching Chael in the head and he got injured.”

Both of these guys are prone to using some extra pizzazz to make themselves look more interesting. Both guys want this fight to sell—if it happens. I believe the animosity is real between them. However, I don’t believe that fight wasn’t staged. And if Wanderlei hurt himself in that rolling session, it wasn’t because of the intensity of the so-called fight.
